  • Introduction

    • The first Ribbon Ridge AVA estate that we were honored to add to our portfolio. This magnificent 16-acre marine-sedimentary shallow sandy soil terroir is owned by the Hill family and farmed by Bergström Wines in partnership since its inception. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from this amazing site are known for their depth of spice, rare woods, incense and oceanic salinity aromatics and for their rich textural layers of fruited spice and earthy minerality. These are seriously age-worthy wines.

  • Tasting Notes

    • From one of the lowest yielding vintages in our history, the 2020 Pinot Noir portfolio showcases some of my favorite attributes of young red wines: bright, fresh fruit aromas and flavors, sweet floral perfume, sweet and savory herbs and a distinct saline minerality all tied up in a playful and juicy structure. This wine is no exception.

A magnificent dark ruby color. Soaring from the glass are deep, complex aromas of loamy forest floor, dried mushrooms, cigar box, black tea and a fresh fruit medley of blackberries and blueberries. Joining the mix is a panoply of sweet baking spices. On the palate, there is a wonderful core of sweet fruits, spices and umami-tinged savory flavors. Knitting it all together is a seducingly silky texture and a thrilling natural acidity that ensures the wine finishes juicy and succulent. As the flavors lingered on my tongue, I proclaimed this wine to be one of the great triumphs of the vintage.

  • Pinot Noir, Le Pré du Col, Ribbon Ridge — 2019 — Vinous — 94 Points

Vivid ruby-red. Assertive scents of ripe red berries, candied rose and baking spices; a smoky mineral element emerges with aeration. Silky, sweet and fleshy on the palate, offering vibrant black raspberry, cherry cola and floral pastille flavors complemented by a hint of star anise. In a juicy, graceful style, showing impressive clarity and smooth, rounded tannins on the long, floral-tinged finish.
