  • Vineyard Profile

    • A selection of plots characterized by their exceptional soil shot through with blue Pliocene marl, rich in minerals. A singular expression of a unique identity.

  • Vintage Report

    • After a particularly cold January that allowed the sap to descend completely and the vines to rest thoroughly, 2017 experienced many different weather conditions in the course of the growing cycle. This caused a high incidence of poor fruit set, particularly in the highly sensitive Grenache, resulting in low yields.

However, frequent applications of healing biodynamic preparations maintained the clusters in excellent condition, ensuring a healthy crop.

  • Vinification

    • The grapes are hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard. Co-fermentation, long vatting for soft extractions. Matured for 12 months in oak foudres.

  • Technical Information

    • Varietal Composition: Grenache 80% • Syrah 20%
    • Alcohol: 14.5%
  • Tasting Notes

    • An inexhaustible reservoir of mineral elements, Argiles Bleues is a wine of great finesse. A superb marriage of plush, juicy fruit, fine, delicate tannins, and phenomenal minerality.

Reviews

  • Domaine de Beaurenard Rasteau Les Argiles Bleues – 2017 – The Wine Advocate – 92 Points

Could the 2017 Rasteau Argiles Bleues be even better than the excellent 2016? It's certainly a big step up from the regular 2017 bottling. Ripe notes of cola, plum and dried spices lead into a full-bodied, expansive palate that's rich and velvety in texture, finishing long and layered. It should drink well for at least 6-7 years.

  • Domaine de Beaurenard Rasteau Les Argiles Bleues – 2017 – Wine Spectator – 92 Points

This gushes with dark plum and boysenberry compote flavors, backed by a light graphite edge and gently singed mulling spice accents on the fleshy finish. A crowd-pleaser. Drink now through 2021.

  • Domaine de Beaurenard Rasteau Argiles Bleues – 2017 – Jeb Dunnuck – 93 Points

Even better, the 2017 Rasteau Argiles Bleues (80/20 Grenache and Syrah) just screams Rasteau with its ripe, chocolaty dark fruit and scorched earth aromas and flavors. It’s rich, has tons of minerality, medium to full body, and a great finish. It’s capable of lasting for over a decade.

  • Domaine de Beaurenard – Rasteau Les Argiles Bleues – 2017 – Jeb Dunnuck – 90-92 Points

The flagship 2017 Rasteau Argiles Bleues is a beauty that exudes class as well as a complex, nuanced character. Black cherries, spice, dried garrigue, and leather notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, nicely structured effort that should benefit from a year or two of bottle age.
