The summer was hot but not as extreme as in 2017, while temperatures in September were higher than the seasonal average, but they compensated for very cool nights which preserved aromas and acidity.

Reviews

  • Scipio, Toscana IGT — 2018 – Wine Enthusiast – 96 Points

“The nose is primarily savory, with notes of balsamic, cured meat and stone, while undertones of raspberries and roses provide a light, floral fruitiness. Berries shine on the palate, which is intense and dynamic from the first drop, as the meatiness also persists to create a confident, self-assured wine. On the finish, a wave of salt crashes over everything, like sunset by the sea.”

  • Scipio, Toscana IGT — 2018 – Vinous – 93 Points

"The 2018 Scipio (Cabernet Franc) is wonderfully energetic and perfumed. Crushed flowers, mocha, tobacco, cedar and worn-in leather meld into a core of dark-toned fruit. In 2018, Scipio is on the more delicate side of things, but it all works well."

  • Scipio, Toscana IGT — 2018 – Wine Spectator – 93 Points

"A lean, intense style, this red delivers cherry, black currant, iron and tobacco flavors framed by toasty oak. Ends with a dusty feel from the tannins on the lingering finish."
