  • Vintage Report

    • In climatic terms, the year saw a dry winter, a rainy early spring, and very little rain in late spring and summer. Summer temperatures were not excessively high, which allowed for gradual ripening. There was a slight delay in maturation in late August, but very high temperatures during the first week of September accelerated sugar concentration.

Reviews

  • Familia Torres Mas de La Rosa, DOQ Priorat — 2016 – Vinous – 97 Points

Glistening ruby-red. Highly perfumed aromas of fresh red and blue fruits, candied lavender and exotic spices are complemented by a smoky mineral overtone. Sappy and energetic on the palate, offering intense black raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors that slowly put on weight and turn spicier through the midpalate. The floral and mineral qualities repeat emphatically on the gently tannic finish, which clings with serious tenacity and persistent spiciness.

  • Familia Torres Mas de La Rosa, DOQ Priorat — 2016 – Jancis Robinson – 17+ Points

Very fresh and sumptuous. Very unlike most Priorats. Polished. Very long and exceptionally fresh. Miguel Torres Maczassek is clearly very proud of this new, fresh style: 'it's all about fruit character'. The wine comes in a burgundy bottle.

  • Familia Torres Mas de la Rosa, DOQ Priorat — 2016 – Decanter – 97 Points

When a famous global brand enters the isolated enclave of Priorat, does it have the sensitivity to make a fine wine? Mas de la Rosa proves it’s possible. A small vineyard, lit by the morning sun, where 80-year-old Garnacha and Cariñena grow on steep slopes. 2016 was the first vintage and Torres has captured the delicacy of the vineyard. It’s silky with penetrating freshness, offering a memory of the slate soil. A great beginning.

  • Familia Torres Mas de la Rosa, DOQ Priorat – 2016 – Decanter – 97 Points

This wine represents the summit of Torres' experience in Priorat. The family has been in the region for a number of years, with its Salmos and Perpetual bottlings, but their deep understanding of the region is demonstrated in this jewel. A single-vineyard that must in time become a gran vinya classificada (grand cru) of Priorat. The name, Mas de la Rosa, honours the floral notes in the nose, with delicate fruit and no sign whatsoever of over-ripeness. Finely grained in the mouth, it's more Burgundian than Mediterranean: so fresh and savoury. Great!
