  • Vintage Report

    • February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early  summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near ideal conditions for the fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels.

  • Tasting Notes

    • “In the nose, dark Hudson cherry and rhubarb work in harmony with characters of savory lavender and thyme accented by a hint of Oolong tea. Enticing flavors of fresh strawberries and bergamot flirt with notes of pink peppercorn and a hint of apricot blossom. The soft, supple tannins and bright acidity make this wine approachable in its youth but also sets the stage for future aging. A more feminine expression of the Carneros region.” — Guillaume Boudet, Winemaker

Reviews

  • Hyde de Villaine Ygnacia Pinot Noir, Hyde Vineyard, Carneros, Napa Valley — 2018 – Vinous – 94 Points

The 2018 Pinot Noir Ygnacia Hyde Vineyard is stellar. Crushed red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, rose petal and spice all soar out of the glass. Effusive and silky, with tremendous presence, the Ygnacia is a real charmer. Readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine.

  • Hyde de Villaine Ygnacia Pinot Noir, Hyde Vineyard, Carneros, Napa Valley — 2018 – James Suckling – 96 Points

Dried raspberry and strawberry with bark and black tea on the nose. Medium to full body and firm, silky tannins. Stone and salt-cube undertones. Savory finish. Turns rich and decadent at the end. Drink or hold.
