“Hints of firewood and camphor light up behind black cherries, vanilla, cedar and spices are on the nose, before fresher notes of tomatoes and herbs come out on the palate. An undercurrent of stony brininess and more berries come through at the back, with the tension held by mellowing tannins but vibrant acid.”

"Delivers wild strawberry, raspberry and red licorice notes that are expressive and juicy, with tea rose, thyme and tar notes and bright orange peel acidity. Long and creamy on the palate, with fine, chalky tannins. Tasted twice, with consistent notes."

“The 2017 Nero d'Avola Vrucara is intense, with a burst of medicinal black cherries, sweet exotic spices, balsam herbs and Baker’s chocolate creating its dark and exotic bouquet. This washes across the palate in silky textural waves, delivering ripe black fruits and balsamic tones, as nuances of tobacco form toward the close. A coating of tannins remains, yet they’re sweet and round, which helps to frame the otherwise hedonistic expression within without slowing the Vrucara’s momentum."

“In a cloud of crushed violet candies, sugar-dusted currants and hints of sage evolve, making the 2020 Nero d’Avola Lagnusa a total aromatic pleasure. Soft-textured and round, this impresses further with ripe red and blue-toned fruits, complemented by sweet spice over a core of vibrant acidity. The Lagnusa finishes remarkably fresh yet long, leaving the mouth watering while still resonating on hints of blackberry and a bitter twang of sour citrus.”

Heady aromas of ripe black-skinned berry, blue flower and Mediterranean scrub are front and center on this smooth red. Made with organically grown grapes, it's delicious and accessible, featuring blackberry jam, ripe black cherry, star anise and baking spice alongside supple tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced.

Sweet violets and rose come together with crushed blackberries and a spritz of tangerine to form an inviting bouquet as the 2019 Nero d'Avola Lagnusa opens in the glass. It’s silky-smooth and round, the ripe black fruits and confectionary spices creating a seductive display. Brisk acids and minerals build tension through the finale, making pleasant punctuation to such an extroverted yet balanced expression.

Aromas of pink petals, balsamic herbs and fresh raspberries. Those fresh red-berry and wild-herb flavors create a bold and buoyant expression of nero d’Avola that reflects Sireci’s wind-blown, high-elevation vineyards in central Sicily.

It’s bursting with vivid aromas of smoky blackberry, wild herbs and liquorice. The palate is full of vibrant acidity and creamy vanilla flavours, interwoven with blackberries and brambles against a sappy, green-herb background, tannins round and nicely integrated. It’s one of the best examples of Perricone I know

A mix of dusty ashen stone, black currants and hints of animal musk lifts up from the darkly alluring 2019 Perricone Core. This fills the palate with pliant, soft textures complemented by juicy notes of blackberry and inner lavender tones. It remains energetic and fruit-focused even as youthful grippy tannins settle in through the long finale, where hints of licorice and blueberry skins resonate. The Core does an excellent job of integrating the gruff Perricone tannins that often make this variety bitter and difficult to enjoy in its youth. Well done.

A beguiling nose of cooling mint and smoke that gives way to crushed cherries laced with licorice and hints of shaved cedar. Its velvety textures soothe, carried across a medium-bodied framework of acid and minerals, as juicy black fruits and hints of wild herbs drenched the palate. A coating of fine tannins lingers, framing the experience nicely without slowing its momentum, as nuances of plum sauce and balsamic spices slowly fade.

Dramatic diurnal shifts in the 2016 growing season preserved fresh acidity in the grapes and amped up this wine’s gorgeous scents of lavender and eucalyptus. It’s a complete wine, unfolding with juicy dark-berry and plum flavors couched in a velvety texture, finishing long and balanced on lingering spice notes.

Bright sunshine and constant winds at Feudo Montoni gave a mid-weight wine with beautiful freshness. Meaty tannins frame flavors of dark plum, tobacco and carob, taking on notes of blood and iron that lend a pleasant rusticity to the wine.

There’s an airy and cooling mineral freshness to the 2020 Catarratto Masso that keeps coming back to the glass. Apricot, peach skins and lemon zest make for an invigorating bouquet. It’s a rich and pliant yet buzzing with energy derived from a mix of zesty acids and sour citrus. Hints of green melon and apple linger long through the finale. The 2020 is an excellent example of just how much character and balance Catarratto can obtain in the right hands.

The 2020 Grillo Timpa is stunning, wafting up with exotic florals and citrus tones, as a more defind bouquet of tangerine, kiwi and candied ginger evolved with time in the glass. It filles the palate with silky waves of ripe tropical fruits, all kept in check through vibrant acidity and a twang of sour lime toward the close. Pineapple mingles with mango and papaya through the long, tension-filled finale, leaving the senses completely refreshed and aching for another sip.”

This keeps you at the edge of the glass with a delicate, yet stunning bouquet of ripe peach laced with candied ginger and a dusting of sweet spice. Its textures are flesh, yet the expression is lifted and spry, with a vivid display of freshly sliced pear, while drenched in minerals and motivated by a lively acidity. There’s a crunchy feel through the finale, as the palate reverberates with residual tension, tapering off to a hint of sour melon.
