Vigna Elena Barolo Riserva DOCG — 2015

jamessuckling.com
96 Points

Dried strawberry with tar and asphalt undertones, as well as dried flowers. Full-bodied, yet tight and refined, this builds on the finish to a terrific ending. Lots of dried mushroom to the fruit. Structured.

Vigna Elena Barolo Riserva DOCG — 2015

Wine & Spirits
96 Points

Valter Fissore has a talent for finding the perfect balance in every vintage, and he’s done it again with the 2015 Vigna Elena, a wine that stands out in this warm vintage for its exuberant florality and freshness. Scents of roses and violets, licorice and mint leap from the glass, leading into flavors of fresh red cherry and orange peel that are vibrant and layered. Impressively harmonious and detailed for a young Riserva, it will only get better over the coming decade.

Mandorlo Dolcetto d’Alba DOC — 2020

The Wine Advocate
90 Points

A delightfully easy and genuine expression of this versatile and food-friendly grape. From a classic vintage that was most kind to the many indigenous grapes grown across the Langa, this wine is bursting with red cherry fruit and fresh raspberry. Those sweet tones are rounded off by a drying note of crushed aspirin.

Bricco Pernice Barolo DOCG — 2016

JancisRobinson.com
18 Points

Lustrous mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Fine but a little drawn back on the nose and in need of lots of air. Brooding depth and with saline notes and hints of blood orange. Quite compact and a little closed on the palate, but it can't obscure the fantastic balance between succulent cherry, the rich layer of powdery tannins and the succulent acidity. Tannic and complex fruit finish with lots of juice and energy.

Bricco Pernice Barolo DOCG — 2016

Vinous
96 Points

The 2016 Barolo Bricco Pernice is absolutely gorgeous. The pedigree of the year comes through in the wine's depth and stature. What a knockout. Ripe black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice, orange peel and rose petal are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop as the 2016 opens in the glass. Readers should be in no rush here. The 2017 is absolutely stellar.

Amplified and spiced aromatics lift from the 2016 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice, with notes of tar, cinnamon, dried currant, and fresh sage. Flush with mid-palate fruit, it also has driving acidity and gripping structure, noted by plum skin, tea leaf, and burnt orange. Defined with persistence and angular structure.

Bricco Pernice Barolo DOCG — 2016

The Wine Advocate
97 Points

The 2016 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is a serious wine, and I mean that both in terms of its complex sophistication and its rather austere and brooding personality. The bouquet is redolent of dark fruit, wild plum and redcurrant, but there is plenty more at the back, with iron ore, crushed stone, camphor ash and licorice. Those sharply contoured lines could be from nowhere else but the classic 2016 vintage, and you recognize its many merits right off the bat. It offers ample depth, nuance and power.

Aromas of dried roses, asphalt and orange peel follow through to a full body with a solid yet silky tannin texture to the clear, vivid fruit. Goes on for minutes. A subtle and very structured red.

Wine & Spirits
100 Points

Valter Fissore’s 2016 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is a tour de force, taking the power, balance and elegance of his 2016 Barolo Ravera to an even higher level. The wine bursts from the glass with aromas of rose petal, violet and mint that are fresh and high toned, beautifully representative of the outstanding 2016 vintage. The wine has an inner brightness and lift that propel those flavors across the palate as they gain notes of raspberry, licorice and orange peel...The tension between subtle power and exuberant energy in the 2016 is a thrill that every Barolo lover should experience.

Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Glorious nose of perfumed, intensely lifted cherry. Hints of black pepper and minerally stony notes. Compact, embryonic and concentrated fruit on the palate with bags of powdery tannins and succulent acidity. Great balance and length.

Ravera Barolo DOCG – 2017

92 Points

The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a beautiful, precise wine. Bright acids and veins of tannin give the 2017 terrific energy that carries all the way through to the finish. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper and spice all open with a bit of coaxing. This is very nicely done.

The 2017 Barolo Ravera makes a statement with its intense aromas of licorice, kirsch, pipe tobacco, and spice. Revealing a balanced and chiseled structure, the palate conveys dried raspberry, blood orange, and dried herbs. A great wine from the 2017 vintage, it feels like it will hold up to the test of time.

Wine Enthusiast

Made by the estate that put this celebrated cru on the map, and showing an enviable combination of elegance and power, this stunning wine opens with aromas of wild berries, underbrush, dark spice and balsamic notes of cedar and new leather. The tense, savory palate is loaded with youthful energy, showing succulent Marasca cherry, raspberry, cinnamon and star anise framed in tightly knit, refined tannins and surprisingly bright acidity for the vintage. A mineral note suggesting iron adds depth to the close

Just mid ruby. A subtle, balsamic, lifted nose that is a little closed and with savoury, minerally notes. Opens up with aeration to pure cherry fruit. Focused, concentrated cherry fruit with a rich layer of intense, powdery tannins. Very elegant, with real freshness and concentration at the same time.

This is perfumed with ripe cherry, licorice, tar, and dried roses. The palate is ripe and refreshing, with a fairly classic build noted by red plum, tobacco leaf, and turned earth. This wine is beautiful and inviting out of the gates.

Cascina Nuova Barolo DOCG – 2016

Decanter
93 Points

The Novello township has gained renown largely thanks to the Elvio Cogno estate which counts 11.5 of its 15 hectares in the cru of Ravera. Cascina Nuova is the most accessible of the property’s four Baroli, assembling fruit from a 1.5ha site of young plantings. The nose radiates prettiness: strawberry and raspberry underpin dewy rose, lilac and anise. Plump, succulent fruit remains buoyant and is gracefully buttressed by fine yet persistent structure. Zesty orange flavours refresh the finish.

Vigna Elena Barolo Riserva DOCG — 2016

Vinous
97 Points

"The 2016 Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is such a complete wine. Elegant, deep and powerful, like only great Barolo can be, the Vigna Elena possesses tons of nuance and dimension from the very first taste. Exotic spice and orange zest notes open first. Ripe raspberry, mocha and autumn leaves develop later. The Vigna Elena is an absolute delight.”
