Comments on 2008 White Burgundy

"Two thousand eight is yet another vintage in which miraculous September weather allowed Burgundy’s better growers and smarter winemakers to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat ... There’s an impressiveness about the 2008s in many cellars. Some producers described them as 'dramatic.' Others felt the 2008s had outstanding inherent richness and potential but needed to be refined through further élevage. The best of these wines are sweet and sexy and nicely reflective of their sites. Some wines show a level of concentration reminiscent of the 2006s but with less of that vintage’s exotic aspect ..."

A Vertical Tasting with Anne-Claude Leflaive

A Vertical Tasting with Anne-Claude Leflaive

"Anne-Claude Leflaive and Pierre Morey joined a dozen sommeliers at Wine & Spirits' New York offices for a vertical tasting of Les Pucelles. Leflaive introduced the wines by describing the transition she and Morey had made to biodynamics. "When Pierre and I arrived," she said, "we decided to change the way we farmed." At the time, they faced a problem with erosion. With conventional farming, they were losing topsoil. "The soil is gold for us," she explained, having found that the best way to keep it in place was "to foster a living population in the soil. I didn't know...

Natural Buzz: The Philosophy Behind Biodynamic Wine

"Anne–Claude Leflaive decided to experiment with biodynamics in 1989, after having met Claude Bourguignon. The last application of chemical fertilizer to the vines was in 1991, and the entire estate—54 acres in Côte de Beaune—was biodynamic by 1998." Click here for the full article.

Biodynamics– Cutting Edge Vintners Put Their Wines to The Test in New York

Biodynamics– Cutting Edge Vintners Put Their Wines to The Test in New York

New York -- I had read about them, but I wanted to see them in person. So I went to New York and watched the vaunted lineup in action -- one all-star after another stepping up and pouring it on, dwarfing the pitchers, delighting the crowds, drawing oohs and aahs with every slug. Jeter, Giambi and A-Rod? Try Araujo, Benziger and Sinskey. The pitchers were spit buckets, the slugs were wines and the crowd was New York sommeliers, wine sellers and wine critics. The event was the American premiere of a whole new league in the wine game -- a...
